National Bohemian Pale Beer Quart

Baltimore's Classic Quart Can

Produced by The National Brewing Company in Baltimore, Maryland, the National Bohemian Pale Beer Quart represents an iconic piece of Mid-Atlantic breweriana. National Bohemian—fondly recognized as "Natty Boh"—served as the brewery's flagship label, heavily promoted across Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay area under memorable marketing slogans like "From the Land of Pleasant Living."

The graphics prominently display the brewery's heraldic crest and classic branding alongside the beloved mascot, Mr. Boh, the winking, handlebar-mustachioed character that became synonymous with Baltimore culture. The lithography also highlights the brewery's heritage with the phrase "First Brewed in 1885."

Among breweriana collectors, quart-sized containers hold high appeal due to their substantial presence and the fact that large-format cans were packaged in smaller quantities than standard twelve-ounce containers. Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, this thirty-two-ounce package was distributed throughout the brewery's East Coast market.

Variations exist across production runs, distinguished primarily by regulatory mandatory text. Collectors recognize versions bearing Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements as well as non-IRTP examples, along with minor adjustments in mandatory phrasing and layout details.

With The National Brewing Company deeply tied to Baltimore's mid-century civic and sports history—most notably through brewery ownership and sponsorship ties to the Baltimore Orioles—this quart container remains a standout centerpiece for regional breweriana collections.
