National Lager Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab/Insert Top Can

Fischbach's St. Charles Classic

The National Lager Premium Beer can represents the brewing heritage of the Fischbach Brewing Company, located in St. Charles, Missouri. Situated along the Missouri River just northwest of St. Louis, Fischbach operated as an independent regional brewery, producing local offerings such as Export Beer, Grand Lager, and National Lager.

Historical Context & St. Charles Heritage

St. Charles hosted only a small handful of brewing operations across its history, giving breweriana from the town a dedicated regional following. Fischbach operated its facility at Water and Third Streets before the site later operated under names such as the Grand Lager Brewing Company and Van Dyke Brewing. Operating in the shadow of major industrial breweries in nearby St. Louis, Fischbach relied on regional distribution throughout eastern Missouri to keep its proprietary brands in circulation.

Design and Collector Noteworthiness

The National Lager label features clean mid-century typography and bold branding designed to stand out on retail shelves. Variations exist among surviving examples, displaying subtle differences in brewery mandatory text and manufacturing markings from canning runs. Because smaller regional operations produced far fewer cans than the shipping giants of the era, cans bearing the Fischbach name remain standout additions for enthusiasts dedicated to Missouri breweriana and mid-century regional packaging history.
