Nectar Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Ambrosia Nectar Premium Can

Produced by the Ambrosia Brewing Company of Chicago, Illinois, the Nectar Premium Beer flat top can represents a classic piece of mid-century Midwestern brewing history. Ambrosia operated out of Chicago's historic Bridgeport neighborhood on South Halsted Street, an area renowned for its deep brewing roots tracing back through the South Side Brewing Company and the 19th-century Joseph Junk Brewery.

Design and Manufacturer Details

The can showcases bold mid-century typography centered around the "Nectar Premium Beer" banner, accompanied by slogan work touting "Properly Brewed - Finest Quality". Manufactured with the American Can Company "Keglined" trademark oval, the packaging reflects standard canning practices of the mid-20th-century market.

Collector Variations and Legacy

Among breweriana enthusiasts, Nectar flat tops are recognized across multiple variations. Notable differences include cans produced with Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) mandatory legal statements versus non-IRTP releases, as well as variations featuring subtle changes in mandatory brewery text, canning marks, and credit lines.

Because Ambrosia was an established independent South Side Chicago brewery operating prior to late-1950s industry consolidation—when the plant transitioned to Atlantic Brewing Company—the Nectar Premium label remains a prized focal point for collectors specializing in Illinois brewing heritage.
