Neuweiler's Pilsener Beer Crowntainer

Neuweiler's Pilsener Crowntainer

The Neuweiler's Pilsener Beer Crowntainer represents a classic mid-century package from L. F. Neuweiler's Sons, an iconic regional brewery based in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Neuweiler was one of the premier independent brewing operations in the Lehigh Valley, centered at their landmark brewery complex on Front and Gordon Streets.

Design and Graphics

The can features a metallic body accentuated by bold typography and the brewery's crown motif. The Neuweiler name is prominently featured alongside clear "Pilsener Beer" text. The strong contrast between the metallic finish and the colored graphic accents provided high shelf visibility throughout tavern and distributor networks in Pennsylvania and neighboring states.

Known Variations

Collectors recognize several design and manufacturing variations for this crowntainer:

• Lettering Color: Examples exist with brown lettering as well as versions bearing black text for major design elements.
• Graphic Details: Subtle graphic distinctions appear across production runs, including variations in the background shading and the semi-circle or half-moon accents framing the brand name.
• Mandatory Statements: Both "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) and non-IRTP variants are documented, reflecting federal labeling changes over the course of its production lifespan.

Breweriana Heritage

L. F. Neuweiler's Sons was known for deep local brand loyalty throughout Pennsylvania. Because crowntainers were used by a select group of breweries during this packaging era, Neuweiler's crowntainers remain sought-after pieces of mid-twentieth-century industrial and regional brewing history.
