Neuweiler's Pilsener Beer Crowntainer

Allentown's Iconic Crowntainer

Produced for L. F. Neuweiler's Sons of Allentown, Pennsylvania, the Neuweiler's Pilsener Beer Crowntainer holds a prominent place in breweriana history. The Neuweiler brewery, situated in the Lehigh Valley, was widely recognized across eastern Pennsylvania for its regional reach and deep brewing heritage.

In packaging history, Neuweiler holds a noteworthy distinction as one of the final breweries to utilize the Crowntainer format before the industry fully standardized on flat tops. Manufactured by Crown Cork & Seal, this two-piece drawn steel container was favored by regional brewers across the Northeast.

The can's graphic design features classic Neuweiler branding anchored by a crown emblem that reinforces the brewery's visual identity. The bold central typography showcases the brand's flagship Pilsener label against a metallic backdrop.

Collectors recognize multiple variations of this container. These differences include variations in mandatory text—such as examples with and without the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) marking—as well as typographic color shifts between brown and black lettering and subtle modifications to the background graphic accents. Because Neuweiler was among the very last operations to fill these containers, the can represents the final chapter of Crowntainer commercial production.
