Oertel's 92 Beer 12 Oz Zip/Tab/Insert Top Can

Oertel's '92 Louisville Tab Top

Produced by the Oertel Brewing Company in Louisville, Kentucky, the Oertel's '92 Beer 12-ounce can is an important piece of regional brewing history. Headquartered in Louisville's Butchertown neighborhood, Oertel was one of the prominent local breweries that defined Kentucky's brewing landscape for generations.

The brand name "92" pays homage to 1892, a pivotal year in the brewery's history when John F. Oertel took full ownership of the firm. Across collector circles, the graphic presentation of Oertel's '92 is recognized for its bold typography, traditional oval framing, and the long-running marketing slogan "Cheerful Refreshment."

During its packaging run in Louisville, can manufacturers such as Continental Can Company and the American Can Company supplied the brewery with can bodies. Over time, variations appeared in the marketplace, featuring differences in factory canning codes, mandatory state alcohol statements, and lid configurations including zip, tab, and insert tops.

Because the historic Louisville plant ceased independent operations in the late 1960s before the brand name was acquired by outside interests, authentic Louisville-mandatory cans represent the final generation of beer packaged directly at the legendary Butchertown facility. Collectors of Kentucky and Ohio River Valley breweriana prize these cans as tangible artifacts of Louisville's rich industrial heritage.
