Old Bavaria Style Beer Cone Top Can

Renner Old Bavaria Cone Top

The Old Bavaria Style Beer Cone Top Can was produced for The Renner Brewing Company of Youngstown, Ohio. Operating out of the Mahoning Valley, Renner was a pillar of Youngstown's industrial brewing heritage, tracing its origins to founder George J. Renner in the late nineteenth century. Following the repeal of Prohibition, the brewery resumed operations and packaged its Old Bavaria brand for regional distribution.

Manufacturing and Design Features

Manufactured as a low-profile cone top by the Continental Can Company under their "Cap-Sealed" line, the container carries the mandatory "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement on the side panel. The face of the can features bold Bavarian-themed typography, an illustrated emblem, and distinctive color blocking tailored for retail display.

Label Variations and Legacy

Among breweriana collectors, this can represents a significant piece of northeastern Ohio brewing history. Known variations exist in the distribution markings along the seam, with specimens noting direct distribution by the Renner Brewing Company and others attributing distribution to local operator Tom Conti.

The historic Old Bavaria branding gained renewed public prominence in Youngstown when local craft brewing initiatives revived the heritage label art for civic celebrations, highlighting the enduring legacy of the Renner brewery's original can designs.
