Old Crown Premium Quality Ale Flat Top Can

Old Crown Premium Quality Ale

The Old Crown Premium Quality Ale flat top represents a prominent chapter in Indiana brewing history, hailing from the historic facility situated on Spy Run Avenue in Fort Wayne. Originally established by Charles Centlivre as the French Brewery, the company built a enduring regional presence that eventually led to adopting the name of its flagship brand, the Old Crown Brewing Corporation.

Old Crown Ale featured distinguished packaging defined by the brand's bold crown emblem and the prominent "Lazy-Aged" marketing motif. The can design served as a cornerstone of the brewery's mid-century advertising campaigns, emphasizing extended aging and premium craftsmanship to differentiate the ale in the Midwestern market.

For collectors of regional breweriana, this label is notable for its manufacturing variations. Different production runs produced by major container manufacturers, including the American Can Company, exhibit subtle differences in background color shades, metallic finishes, and side-panel regulatory statements, such as mandatory internal revenue tax wording changes across different eras. These graphic and text shifts make the label an interesting subject for studying mid-century packaging evolution from one of Indiana's most celebrated independent breweries.
