Old Dutch Brand Ale Cone Top Can

Brooklyn Old Dutch Ale Can

Produced by Old Dutch Brewers, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, the Old Dutch Brand Ale cone top represents a prominent piece of East Coast breweriana history. Operating out of Brooklyn's Flatbush neighborhood near East 42nd Street and Glenwood Road, Old Dutch Brewers was an active regional producer during the expansion of canned beer packaging in the United States.

Design and Collector Significance

The can features distinctive Old Dutch branding with bold period typography and graphic elements celebrating New York's historic brewing heritage. While Old Dutch Brewers packaged a wide variety of beverages, the Old Dutch Brand Ale in a cone top format is recognized among collectors as one of the more elusive New York issues.

Examples of this can carry the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement, identifying it as an artifact from the federal tax statement era. Compared to the brewery's standard flat top releases, ale cone tops appear on the secondary market with far less frequency and consistently draw strong interest at breweriana auctions.

Known Variations

Variations of this can exist across different canning runs. Notable distinctions among these variants include differences in mandatory text placement, variations in font sizing, and alternate federal tax statement phrasing. Collectors of metropolitan New York labels actively track these production differences to catalog the various manufacturing runs utilized by Old Dutch Brewers.
