Old Dutch Brand Bock Flat Top Can

Brooklyn's Old Dutch Brand Bock

Produced by Old Dutch Brewers, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, this 12-ounce flat top container dates to the post-Prohibition era when Brooklyn was one of the most prolific brewing centers in the United States. Operating from facilities on East 42nd Street and Glenwood Road, Old Dutch was part of the regional brewing landscape that sustained dozens of neighborhood-rooted brands.

Like other seasonal releases of the period, the brand's bock beer adopted the traditional iconography associated with German-style bock brewing. The front label features an illustrated goat head centered within a bold oval frame. Rendered with sweeping horns and an open-mouthed expression, the goat serves as the focal point, flanked by gothic-inspired blackletter typography proclaiming "Old Dutch Brand" arched across the top and "Bock Beer" anchoring the base.

The container carries the mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statement, placing its manufacture within the regulatory window between the repeal of Prohibition and the early 1950s. Among collectors of New York breweriana, early flat tops from Old Dutch Brewers are heavily sought after due to their striking graphic design and Brooklyn industrial heritage.
