Old Dutch Brand Good Beer Flat Top Can

Old Dutch: Findlay's Good Beer

The Old Dutch Brand Good Beer flat top can represents one of northwestern Ohio's most celebrated regional breweriana artifacts. Manufactured for the Krantz Brewing Corporation in Findlay, Ohio, this can carried the brewery's flagship label alongside its famously understated slogan, "The Good Beer."

History and Imagery

Krantz Brewing Corporation built Old Dutch into a household name across Ohio and neighboring markets. The brand was deeply embedded in regional culture, even sponsoring popular local programming such as the Old Dutch Polka Revue on Cleveland television.

The visual centerpiece of the can is the classic Old Dutch trademark featuring an elderly couple. Local accounts note that this artwork was adapted from a painting titled A Friend in Need by Findlay physician and artist Dr. A.H. Linaweaver, who recreated the scene after seeing the original in the Louvre. Flanked by bold typography and the iconic slogan, the illustration established an unmistakable aesthetic for the Krantz brand.

Can Variations

The face of the can highlights the Old Dutch name and "The Good Beer" banner, accompanied by Krantz Brewing Corporation manufacturing credits. Collectors document variations across production runs, distinguished by differences in side-panel mandatory text, tax-related lid stamping, and manufacturer trademarks from can makers such as the American Can Company.

Standing as a symbol of mid-century regional brewing in northwestern Ohio, this flat top remains a central piece for collectors specializing in Ohio breweriana.
