Old Dutch Brand Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Old Dutch Brand Lager Flat Top

Brewed and filled by Old Dutch Brewers, Inc. of Brooklyn, New York, the Old Dutch Brand Lager Beer flat top can represents a notable artifact from New York City's mid-twentieth-century brewing landscape. Operating out of East Flatbush on East 42nd Street and Glenwood Road, Old Dutch Brewers was an active post-Prohibition packaging brewery that supplied a wide range of proprietary and contract labels across the metropolitan area.

Graphic Design and Markings

The can features traditional mid-century commercial artwork dominated by prominent Old Dutch branding and classic heraldic motifs. Side panels carry mandatory period markings, including the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement alongside manufacturer canning credits and standard instruction panels.

Collector Notes and Variations

Among breweriana enthusiasts, cans from Old Dutch Brewers are known to have variations across manufacturing runs, featuring slight shifts in side panel text, minor color layout differences, and varying canning manufacturer marks. Because the brewery operated within a highly competitive local market and had a relatively limited regional footprint, examples from this Brooklyn label remain desirable centerpieces for collectors focusing on historic New York breweries and industrial container design.
