Old Dutch Brand Premium Lager Beer 12 Oz Insert Top Can

Old Dutch Lager: Century Brewery

The Old Dutch Brand Premium Lager Beer 12 oz insert top can represents a notable chapter in Virginia brewing history. Packaged by the Century Brewery Corporation in Norfolk, Virginia, this container showcases the bold graphic identity and regional heritage associated with one of the Tidewater area's major post-Prohibition brewing facilities.

Industrial Lineage in Norfolk

Century Brewery Corporation operated from the historic brewery plant at Church Street and Washington Avenue in Norfolk. This brewing site carried a rich industrial heritage, having previously housed the Consumers Brewing Company, Southern Breweries, and Jacob Ruppert-Virginia before Century took over operations and later transitioned under the Champale umbrella. Old Dutch Brand Premium Lager stood as one of the central labels distributed from this bustling coastal facility.

Label Graphics and Production Variations

The visual presentation of the can features a traditional heraldic crest, arched typography, and a balanced color scheme dominated by rich red, gold, and white lithographed detailing. The graphics proudly declare the beer's premium designation while balancing required mandatory markings of the era.

Among breweriana collectors, the can generates keen interest due to the limited number of major canning breweries operating in southeastern Virginia during that era. Label and lid variations are known across production runs, reflecting differences in Virginia state tax stamps on the lids, subtle shifts in crest proportions, and variations in corporate naming text as the Norfolk brewery transitioned operations between corporate entities.
