Old Georgetown Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can

Old Georgetown Beer Flat Top

The Old Georgetown Premium Quality Beer flat top can was produced by the Christian Heurich Brewing Company of Washington, D.C. Introduced in the 1950s to revitalize the brewery's portfolio as its Senate Beer brand faced declining market share, Old Georgetown became one of the company's most heavily promoted labels. Chr. Heurich backed the product with extensive regional advertising campaigns, including radio jingles and televised sponsorships of Washington Senators baseball games. Historical accounts note that when the Christian Heurich brewery officially ceased operations in 1956, the final can to roll off the packaging line was an Old Georgetown can.

The can's artwork is celebrated among collectors for showcasing an illustrated historical map of Georgetown and Washington, D.C. The graphic design depicts notable local landmarks such as Georgetown University, Dumbarton Oaks, the Francis Scott Key residence, Rock Creek, Pennsylvania Avenue, and the canal.

Collectors document various manufacturing variations for this design. Known variations include differences in background color tones, ranging from light brown to darker brown, as well as minor shifts in label sizing, typography, and promotional slogans. Produced using American Can Company's Keglined process, this piece remains a central artifact of mid-century Washington brewing history.
