Old German Brand Beer Cone Top Can

Queen City's Flagship Can

The Old German Brand Beer cone top represents the flagship label issued by the Queen City Brewing Company of Cumberland, Maryland. Originally founded as the German Brewing Company on Market Street, the business adapted its corporate name during wartime rebranding, and Old German remained its premier product across the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian regions.

Design and Manufacturer Details

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, this high-profile container is distinguished by bold Old German typography framed by traditional crests and heraldic motifs. The label design frequently incorporated proud brewery taglines, including "Aged That Extra Month" and "The World Knows No Finer".

Collector Variations

Breweriana collectors recognize several distinct label variations produced across the can's packaging run. These differences include mandatory legal text adjustments—such as panels bearing Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements versus non-IRTP panels—along with slight shifts in brewery text, tagline placement, and color details.

Advertising Lore

The brand's reach was bolstered by Queen City's active promotional campaigns. Among the most notable marketing initiatives were the illustrated mascot "Herman" dressed in traditional attire and the company-sponsored "Old German Hermanettes," a renowned women's softball team known as the "Oh Gee gals" who competed across multiple states.
