Old German Brand Beer Flat Top Can

Colonial's Old German Flat Top

The Old German Brand Beer flat top can produced under the Colonial Brewing Company name originates from Hammonton, New Jersey. Colonial Brewing served as an alternate trade name for the Eastern Brewing Corporation, a historic New Jersey operation known for producing a diverse portfolio of regional, supermarket, and proprietary brands. Operating out of its North Washington Street plant, Eastern Brewing stood as the only commercial brewery located in Hammonton, making its various brand labels historically significant to Garden State breweriana.

The can features traditional Germanic blackletter typography and mid-century graphic styling. Cans produced during these canning runs typically included the notable marketing line "Brewed With Pure Artesian Well Water," highlighting the water source used by the Hammonton plant. Packaging was manufactured using the American Can Company's patented "Keglined" process.

Known variations exist among collector specimens, showing subtle differences in seam width, metallic finish sheen, and mandatory brewery text layout. Today, this flat top remains a desirable artifact representing Atlantic County's industrial brewing era and Eastern Brewing Corporation's extensive canning history.
