Old German Brand Premium Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Queen City Old German Tab Top

The Old German Brand Premium Lager Beer tab top can represents the packaging era of the Queen City Brewing Company, located in Cumberland, Maryland. Old German served as the brewery's flagship label, carrying a heritage that traced back to the company's early roots as the German Brewing Company along Wills Creek.

Brewery Background and Regional Heritage

Queen City Brewing Company stood as a prominent regional powerhouse in Western Maryland, distributing heavily throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. The Old German label enjoyed immense regional loyalty, supported by active local sponsorships such as the "Old German Hermanettes" softball team and promotional campaigns featuring the Bavarian-attired mascot "Herman the German". Queen City later expanded by acquiring its long-time local competitor, the Cumberland Brewing Company, solidifying its place in the region's industrial brewing history before operations ceased in the 1970s.

Can Design and Variations

The can face highlights traditional Old World styling, featuring bold Gothic typography, classic Bavarian heraldic crest motifs, and the promotional slogan, "The World Knows No Finer Lager".

For breweriana enthusiasts, this can features recognized manufacturing variations. Differences across production batches include subtle adjustments to mandatory statement phrasing, layout variations in the brewery address text, and slight shifts in metallic trim and color accents. These variations make the Old German can an essential piece for collectors specializing in mid-Atlantic regional breweries.
