Queen City's Old German Tab Top

The Old German Brand Premium Lager Beer 12 oz straight steel tab top can represents the premier label of the Queen City Brewing Company. Operating out of Cumberland, Maryland, Queen City established itself as a regional powerhouse throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian brewing scenes.

Brewery Background

Originally established in 1901 as the German Brewing Company on Market Street in Cumberland, the firm adapted its operations and identity across several eras of industry change. During World War II, the company formally adopted the name Queen City Brewing Company. Despite corporate name changes, the Old German label remained the company's leading brand and a beloved regional fixture. At its operational height, the Market Street brewery produced hundreds of thousands of barrels annually and acquired its cross-town rival, the Cumberland Brewing Company.

Marketing and Brand Identity

Queen City supported the Old German brand with extensive marketing initiatives. The company featured an illustrated mascot known as "Herman" and famously sponsored local athletic teams, including the traveling "Old German Hermanettes" women's softball team.

Design and Collector Significance

This 12-ounce straight steel container is distinguished by its clean white background design paired with traditional Germanic heraldic crests and bold typography.
