Old German Brand Premium Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Queen City Old German Flat Top

The Old German Brand Premium Lager Beer Flat Top Can represents the flagship offering of the Queen City Brewing Company based in Cumberland, Maryland. Originally founded in 1901 as the German Brewing Company, the brewery adopted the Queen City name during the 1940s, maintaining Old German as its cornerstone brand and regional staple.

The can's eye-catching livery showcases bold Germanic lettering alongside the recognizable brand slogan, "The World Knows No Finer Lager." During the height of the brand's popularity, Queen City promoted Old German across the Mid-Atlantic and Appalachian regions, even sponsoring a regional women's softball team known as the "Old German Hermanettes" (or the "Oh Gee" gals), whose uniforms featured the brand's Bavarian cartoon mascot, Herman the German.

Among breweriana collectors, this flat top is sought after for its connection to Western Maryland's industrial brewing heritage. Known variations exist across different production runs, exhibiting subtle differences in mandatory text formatting, metallic finishes, and canning line markings. It remains a celebrated artifact from Queen City Brewing's peak output before the Cumberland facility ceased operations in the 1970s.
