Old German (pennsylvania Dutch) Beer Flat Top Can

Lebanon Valley Old German Flat Top

The Old German (Pennsylvania Dutch) Beer flat top can represents a notable mid-century release from the Lebanon Valley Brewing Company of Lebanon, Pennsylvania. Operating from its brewery facility on North 7th Street—a site with brewing heritage tracing back to the 19th century—Lebanon Valley produced a regional lineup that celebrated local culture. The Old German brand was one of the brewery's standout post-Prohibition labels, paying direct homage to the German-American traditions of Pennsylvania Dutch Country.

The can's lithography features a rich brown background complemented by bold, traditional lettering highlighting the Old German name and Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Produced by the Crown Cork & Seal Company, the container exemplifies mid-century industrial canning artwork. Known variations exist among surviving examples, including differences in mandatory text layout, lithographic details, and state tax lid stampings.

Following the brewery's closure in the late 1950s, cans bearing the Lebanon Valley imprint became popular collector items representing Pennsylvania's independent regional brewing history.
