Old Gibraltar Extra Dry Beer Flat Top Can

Old Gibraltar Extra Dry Flat Top

The Old Gibraltar Extra Dry Beer flat top was produced by the Maier Brewing Company, a historic brewing institution located on Commercial Street in Los Angeles, California. During the mid-20th century, Maier established itself as one of the prominent regional packaging powerhouses in Southern California, recognized among collectors for producing an extensive roster of proprietary brands and private-label canned offerings alongside its flagship Brew 102.

Among Maier's specialized labels, the Old Gibraltar brand represents a notable and elusive piece of West Coast breweriana. The label presentation features prominent typography highlighting the "Famous Extra Dry Beer" designation. The overall graphic composition reflects Maier's mid-century aesthetic, utilizing bold lettering, metallic elements, and clean design motifs typical of the era's commercial steel can designs.

Variations exist across different production runs, featuring subtle differences in brewery text phrasing and manufacturer markings. Because Maier often produced secondary or regionally targeted brands for distributors and grocery networks across California, Old Gibraltar did not see the vast distribution numbers of mainstream lines. As a result, it remains a sought-after acquisition for collectors specializing in Los Angeles brewing history and mid-century canned breweriana.
