Old Grimes Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Old Grimes Beer Can Overview

August Schell Brewing Company, located in New Ulm, Minnesota, holds a rich history of producing flagship lines alongside specialized contract and commemorative labels for communities across the Upper Midwest. Among these regional cans is Old Grimes Beer, produced in connection with Grimes, Iowa.

Throughout its history, August Schell developed a reputation for providing custom canning runs for regional distributors, anniversaries, and community celebrations. Old Grimes exemplifies this tradition of private labeling, allowing regional entities to offer customized branded beer canned at the historic New Ulm plant.

The label displays prominent "Old Grimes" branding celebrating midwestern heritage. Within breweriana collecting, cans bearing the August Schell mandatory information from this period are popular among those documenting the brewery's extensive roster of contract labels. Variations exist among cans from different production runs, primarily involving subtle adjustments to manufacturer text and regulatory markings. As August Schell stands as one of the oldest family-owned breweries in the United States, Old Grimes serves as an interesting artifact of midwestern contract brewing.
