Old Milwaukee Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Old Milwaukee Longview Can

The Old Milwaukee Beer 12-ounce tab top can produced by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company at its Longview, Texas facility represents an important piece of regional packaging history. Schlitz operated the Longview plant to package and supply its expanding distribution network throughout Texas and neighboring southern markets.

Design and Lithography

The can features classic Old Milwaukee typography set against a metallic lacquer background with crisp blue and red accents. Lithographic branding on the display faces emphasizes the core brand identity, framed with bold detailing designed for high shelf visibility.

Brewery Mandatories and Markings

For breweriana enthusiasts focusing on Texas packaging lines, the primary identifier appears along the seam line in the mandatory statement. The text credits the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company with Longview, Texas listed as the packaging location, appearing either as an individual plant credit or integrated into a multi-city mandatory list.

Production Variations

Can manufacturers supplying the Longview facility produced several manufacturing variations over the course of production. Collectors document variations involving metal compositions, differing metallic base sheens, subtle shifts in font weighting, and minor adjustments to mandatory text placement along the seam.
