Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Schlitz Longview Can History

The Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company operated its packaging and brewing facility in Longview, Texas, to supply expanding markets throughout the southern United States. Under the Schlitz corporate umbrella, Old Milwaukee served as a powerhouse brand designed to compete in the popular-priced market segment.

The "Genuine Draft" branding reflects an era of nationwide promotional efforts emphasizing draft-quality beer in retail packaging. The container features classic brand graphics, metallic tones, and the Jos. Schlitz brewery mandatory text printed along the side seam indicating the Longview, Texas facility.

For breweriana enthusiasts focused on Lone Star State manufacturing and multi-plant production networks, the Longview imprint is of particular interest. Throughout production, several manufacturing variations emerged, including differences in mandatory text placement, paint lacquer finishes, and bottom lid stampings across different canning runs.
