Jos. Schlitz Longview Tab Top

The Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft 12-ounce container produced under the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company banner represents an integral chapter in regional packaging history, specifically associated with the company's canning operations in Longview, Texas. Schlitz utilized the Longview facility to supply its expanding distribution networks throughout Texas and the broader southern market.

Design and Visual Attributes

The exterior graphics showcase classic Old Milwaukee branding, highlighted by bold typography set against reflective metallic background lacquer. The bold red and blue accents flank the primary "Genuine Draft" script, framed by clean lithographic detailing designed to stand out on retail shelves.

Brewery Mandatories and Markings

For specialized collectors focusing on Texas container history, the key identifier lies in the brewery mandatory statement along the seam line. The text credits the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company with Longview, Texas designated as a packaging location, appearing either as an individual plant credit or integrated into multi-city plant mandatory lists.

Manufacturing Variations

Throughout its manufacturing history, various can makers supplied containers to the Longview plant, resulting in subtle production variations. Collectors catalog variations in metal composition, differences in the metallic base sheen, shifts in mandatory text placement, and slight modifications in lid rim crimps and factory stampings. These distinctions make the Longview-associated can an important inclusion for collectors tracing the packaging lineage of Jos. Schlitz brands.
