Old Milwaukee 14 Oz Tampa Tab Top

The Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft 14-ounce tab top can produced at the Jos. Schlitz facility in Tampa, Florida, holds a notable place among regional odd-sized containers. While standard 12-ounce and 16-ounce volumes dominated nationwide retail shelves, major breweries periodically introduced 14-ounce containers to target select regional markets and military distribution channels.

Regional Tampa Production

Jos. Schlitz operated its Florida brewery to supply the southeastern United States, packaging core brands alongside secondary lines like Old Milwaukee. Because packaging was tailored to local demand, cans bearing the Tampa plant designation saw a more limited geographic footprint than those coming out of flagship Midwestern facilities. As a result, Tampa-labeled odd-size containers have become popular focal points for regional breweriana specialists.

Can Design and Production Variations

The straight-steel container features Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft branding, highlighted by bold typography, red-and-white accents, and a metallic silver background across two printed display faces. The seam area displays the brewery mandatory identifying Jos. Schlitz in Tampa, Florida.

Over the course of its manufacturing runs, subtle variations appeared on the packaging. Collectors have documented variations in mandatory text phrasing, minor shifts in the shade and reflectivity of the silver lacquer, and differences in the factory stampings on the bottom lids. These localized odd-size production runs make the Tampa 14-ounce can a compelling subject in American beer packaging history.
