Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft 14 Oz Tab Top Can

Old Milwaukee 14 Oz Memphis Can

Produced by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company at their packaging facility in Memphis, Tennessee, the Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft 14-ounce tab top represents a notable entry in regional odd-size breweriana. While standard 12-ounce and 16-ounce containers dominated the national beer market, breweries periodically manufactured 14-ounce cans to serve specialized regional retail channels and consumer preferences across southern distribution territories.

Packaging Design and Memphis Mandatory

The can showcases the classic Old Milwaukee Genuine Draft branding, defined by bold red accents set against metallic silver enamel tones. The brewery mandatory along the seam designates Jos. Schlitz in Memphis, Tennessee, distinguishing this particular release from cans filled at other regional Schlitz facilities such as Milwaukee or Longview. Variations exist across production runs, featuring differences in factory seam finishing, lacquer shades, and specific wording layouts along the seam lines.

Significance for Collectors

Because odd-sized steel containers were issued in far smaller quantities and targeted restricted regional footprints, the 14-ounce Memphis Old Milwaukee container remains a focused subject of interest for enthusiasts documenting the manufacturing history and packaging diversity of the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company.
