Old Reading Pilsner Beer Crowntainer

Old Reading Pilsner Overview

The Old Reading Pilsner Beer Crowntainer is a notable mid-century release from the Old Reading Brewery, located in Reading, Pennsylvania. Rooted in the brewing traditions of Berks County, the brewery traced its origins to the late nineteenth century. It established a strong regional presence throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, often celebrating local heritage on its packaging with slogans such as "Traditionally Pennsylvania Dutch".

The label graphics for this pilsner prominently display bold branding alongside heraldic crest imagery. Collectors recognize variations of this can, including versions with a metallic silver background and others with a cream or tan finish. Further variations exist regarding the presence or absence of the Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) mandatory statement, reflecting production spanning the regulatory transition period. Among these, the silver-bodied examples are particularly prized by breweriana enthusiasts due to their relative scarcity.

Manufactured by Crown Cork & Seal for the brewery's facility at 9th and Laurel Streets, the container stands as a prominent artifact from the era of independent Pennsylvania regional brewing.
