Old St. Louis Beer Flat Top Can

St. Louis Mid-Century Classic

The Old St. Louis Beer flat top can represents a notable chapter in Missouri breweriana, issued under the banner of the Lami Brewing Company of St. Louis. Although bearing the Lami name, the brand was utilized as an alternate operating moniker by the historic Griesedieck Brothers Brewery, taking its name from Lami Street running alongside the brewery's St. Louis plant.

Manufactured by the American Can Company, the container is distinguished by its clean graphic composition, featuring bold typography framed by rich metallic gold detailing, clean white sections, and deep accent colors. By prominently displaying the city's name on the primary display face, the can served as a direct nod to the gateway city's storied brewing heritage.

Collectors have identified distinct variations across production runs of this can. These design shifts include differences in the metallic gold banding along the upper and lower rims, as well as variations in the phrasing and placement of mandatory alcohol content and tax statements on the side panels and lids. The can stands as an intriguing artifact from an era when major regional brewers used secondary corporate entities to expand shelf presence throughout the Midwest.
