Old St. Louis Beer Flat Top Can

Old St. Louis Beer Flat Top

The Old St. Louis Beer Flat Top Can represents a notable mid-century piece of Midwestern breweriana issued under the Lami Brewing Co. name in St. Louis, Missouri. In historical context, "Lami Brewing Company" functioned as a trade alias used by the well-known Griesedieck Brothers Brewery Company, deriving its moniker from Lami Street in South St. Louis where company properties and shipping facilities were situated. Large regional brewers frequently utilized separate corporate entity names to release regional value labels and off-brand lines without altering their flagship brand identity.

Graphic Design and Manufacture

Manufactured by the American Can Company, the can features bold "Old St. Louis" script across the label face paired with mid-century typography and metallic accents. The design pays homage to the storied brewing heritage of St. Louis, which was historically among the premier brewing capitals of the United States.

Collector Notes and Variations

Among breweriana enthusiasts, this can is recognized as a standout regional label from the Griesedieck family of brands. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, showcasing subtle differences such as the presence or placement of mandatory alcohol statements and adjustments in metallic trim along the rims. Because the Lami trade name saw limited use compared to standard Griesedieck packaging, this can remains a favored shelf piece among collectors specializing in Missouri brewing history.
