Old Style Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Old Style Lager Flat Top Can

The Old Style Lager Beer flat top can was produced by the G. Heileman Brewing Company in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Originally introduced under the moniker "The Old Times Lager" around the turn of the twentieth century before transitioning to the "Old Style" brand name, this flagship label became a defining midwestern staple and a central piece of Heileman's portfolio.

Label Graphics and Branding

The can displays the distinctive Heileman heraldic crest and classic "Old Style Lager" typography against a clean, metallic background accented with the brand's traditional red and blue color scheme. Text on the body emphasizes the brewery's heritage, frequently featuring slogans such as "It's Good Style To Drink Old Style" along with references to the traditional kraeusening natural carbonation method.

Production Variations and Collector Significance

Collectors note that this flat top was produced across several distinct variations. These differences include variations in manufacturer markings from different can suppliers, adjustments in mandatory alcohol statement text depending on regional state distribution, and slight shifts in the lower border styling, such as versions with or without white bottom striping. Because of its place in the history of upper-Midwest brewing, the can remains a cornerstone for collectors focusing on Wisconsin breweriana and post-Prohibition regional packaging.
