Old Style Lager (Heileman's) Beer Flat Top Can

Heileman's Old Style Lager Flat Top

Produced by the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin, this 12-ounce flat top container showcases the classic branding of the brewery's flagship label, Old Style Lager. The face of the can features an elaborate lithographed panoramic mural evoking Old World brewing traditions, depicting a multi-level scene of villagers, monks enjoying lager at a wooden table beside aging barrels, and an ox-drawn cart transporting barrels through a European-style hamlet.

Collectors distinguish this specific design variation by the hanging tavern sign above the central mural, which presents a plain white shield inscribed with "HEILEMAN'S Old Style Lager" without decorative scrollwork around the bracket. Flanking the upper right corner of the illustration is a prominent red diagonal corner banner cautioning that the beer is not genuine without the signature of G. Heileman Brewing Company, accompanied by the founder's script mark. Directly above the artwork stands the traditional figure holding a foaming glass of beer aloft, bridging the white upper field with the wide green band displaying the "Heileman's" gothic wordmark.

To the upper left of the central scene, the can lists the brewery's promotional pillars, including "Old World Methods," "Costly Ingredients," "Sparkling Pure Wisconsin Water," and "Double Fermentation." Mandatory statements and copyright notices along the lower rim credit the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin, making this a quintessential example of mid-century Upper Midwest regional brewing art.
