Old Topper Lager Beer Crowntainer

Old Topper Lager Crowntainer

The Old Topper Lager Beer Crowntainer represents one of the most recognizable offerings packaged by the Rochester Brewing Company of Rochester, New York. Featuring the brand's signature imagery centered around the dapper "Old Topper" gentleman adorned in a formal top hat, the can showcases the distinctive graphic identity created for this historic regional label.

Manufactured by the Crown Cork & Seal Company, the can utilizes a striking graphic layout that highlights the Old Topper moniker and classic brewing motifs. The branding established Rochester Brewing Company's presence across regional markets in the Northeast, serving as a flagship companion to the brewery's ale offerings under the same brand banner.

Collectors recognize that variations exist across different manufacturing runs. Early versions incorporate the "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement, while versions produced after federal labeling requirements shifted omit this notation. Additionally, subtle differences in side-panel text layout, company phrasing, and background finishing have been documented by collectors across different production batches.

As a central piece of Rochester's rich brewing heritage, the Old Topper Lager can remains a prized specialty item for collectors focused on New York breweriana and mid-century beverage packaging.
