Old Union Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Jax Ice Old Union Lager Flat Top

The Old Union Lager Beer flat top represents a notable piece of Florida brewing heritage, originating from the Jax Ice facility located in Jacksonville, Florida. Originally established by William Ostner as the Jacksonville Brewing Company before adopting the Jax Ice and Cold Storage identity during Prohibition, the plant became a central production powerhouse for the region.

During the mid-twentieth century, the brewery expanded operations beyond its proprietary brands by contracting to package Old Union Lager Beer. This contract arrangement dramatically boosted production output at the Jacksonville plant, supplying the regional label across Florida and neighboring southeastern markets.

The can features the American Can Company "Keglined" hallmark along the seam and bears mandatory text attributing the packaging to Jax Ice in Jacksonville. The bold label design is anchored by prominent Old Union lettering and period commercial typography.

For collectors of southeastern regional breweriana, this label holds significant historical interest due to the intertwined corporate histories of regional breweries and cold storage operations. Known label variations exist across manufacturing runs, showing subtle differences in mandatory text placement and state-specific lid stampings, including lids stamped with Florida state tax endorsements.
