Old Vienna Premium Light Beer 12 Oz Tab/Insert Top Can

Maier's Old Vienna Tab Top Can

The Old Vienna Premium Light Beer 12 oz can represents an iconic chapter in West Coast brewing history, produced by the Maier Brewing Company in Los Angeles, California. Under the leadership of industrialist Paul Kalmanovitz, Maier established a reputation as one of the most prolific producers of budget, regional, and private-label beers in the western United States.

Old Vienna was marketed as an economical option for value-conscious consumers. Maier frequently incorporated retail promotions directly into the can's lithography, and certain production runs of the Old Vienna label are well known among collectors for featuring factory-printed promotional pricing badges, such as the famous "6 for 87¢" marking across the face.

From a manufacturing perspective, Maier contracted with major container producers, including the American Can Company and National Can Company. Collectors have documented variations in manufacturer plant codes, seam designs, and mandatory label text. The graphic presentation combines mid-century commercial typography with classic heraldic motifs, reflecting the era's widespread trend of pairing Old World styling with domestic economy brews.

This can stands as a notable artifact of Southern California's industrial brewing heritage and remains a popular centerpiece for collectors dedicated to Maier Brewing memorabilia and regional contract labels.
