Olde English 800 Malt Liquor 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Blitz-Weinhard Newark 16 Oz Can

Olde English 800 remains one of the most culturally recognizable and widely distributed malt liquor labels in American brewing history. Tracing its lineage back to Ruff's Olde English Stout produced by Peoples Brewing Company and later Bohemian Breweries, the brand was reshaped into Olde English 800 under the stewardship of the Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company. The brand gained significant traction, eventually becoming the brewery's leading label before Blitz-Weinhard was acquired by the Pabst Brewing Company.

Following corporate consolidation, packaging operations for Olde English 800 expanded into major industrial brewing hubs, including the Newark, New Jersey facility. Cans bearing the Blitz-Weinhard company name alongside the Newark mandatory statement represent this transitional period of nationwide distribution and cross-facility packaging. For breweriana enthusiasts, Newark-designated examples highlight the geographic reach of the classic Pacific Northwest brand into East Coast production centers.

Offering a larger alternative to standard twelve-ounce packaging, the sixteen-ounce pint format was a key component of malt liquor retail strategies. The can't graphic design features the brand's traditional heraldic presentation, utilizing bold typography and crest motifs that established its enduring visual identity on shelves across the country.

Among malt liquor collectors, known variations of this sixteen-ounce can exist, distinguished by slight changes in brewery mandatory text lines, distributor statements, and can manufacturing stamps. It holds an important place in breweriana history as an artifact from the golden era of major American malt liquor expansion.
