Olde English Brand 600 A Malt Liquor Flat Top Can

Olde English 600 Portland Can

The Olde English Brand 600 A Malt Liquor flat top can stands as an important regional piece of Pacific Northwest breweriana history. Associated with Br. Corp. of Ore. in Portland, Oregon—a corporate entity tied to the historic Blitz-Weinhard Brewing Company—this can represents a key stepping stone in the lineage of one of America's most recognizable malt liquor lines.

The origins of the Olde English brand trace back to Peoples Brewing Company of Duluth, Minnesota, where it was originally known as Ruff's Olde English Stout. The brand was later adapted into Olde English 600 and produced by Bohemian Breweries in Spokane, Washington, before moving under the Blitz-Weinhard umbrella in Portland. Under this management, the Olde English moniker gained substantial regional traction throughout the Pacific Northwest and paved the way for the eventual nationwide rollout of the Olde English 800 brand.

Visually, the can features classic Olde English branding, prominently displaying medieval-inspired gothic lettering alongside the bold "600" designation and traditional heraldic crest imagery. The can was produced with the "A Malt Liquor" legal designation required by regional beverage labeling laws.

For collectors, known variations exist across manufacturing runs, featuring subtle differences in mandatory text layout, container manufacturer markings, and minor graphic adjustments. Because it highlights the transitional era before the brand achieved massive national distribution under the 800 name, this Portland-brewed flat top remains a highly desirable artifact for Pacific Northwest and malt liquor specialists.
