Olde Tyme Premium Lager by Maier

Olde Tyme Premium Lager Beer is a collectible can produced by the Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California. Maier was one of Southern California's most prolific regional brewing operations, operating out of its historic facility along North Spring Street near downtown Los Angeles.

Brewery Heritage and Market Role

During the mid-century era, Maier Brewing established a notable reputation throughout the American brewing industry for its expansive portfolio of budget-friendly labels, supermarket house brands, and regional contract brews. Under the management of brewery magnate Paul Kalmanovitz, the Los Angeles plant survived fierce competition from expanding national mega-breweries by utilizing surplus canning line capacity to package dozens of distinct proprietary brands. Olde Tyme was marketed to appeal to consumers seeking traditional brewing imagery at an economical price point across Western retail markets.

Graphic Design and Collector Significance

The can's visual presentation features bold, stylized typography and traditional banner accents designed to project a heritage aesthetic on store shelves. For breweriana collectors, cans originating from Maier Brewing represent a prominent specialty focus due to the remarkable diversity of labels the facility produced. Variations in factory production markings and minor lithography details exist across different canning runs. As a result, this label remains a desirable showcase of Southern California's commercial brewing history.
