Olde Vat Premium Beer Cone Top Can

Olde Vat Premium Cone Top

The Olde Vat Premium Beer cone top was produced by the New Philadelphia Brewery, Inc., located in New Philadelphia, Ohio. As a regional Midwestern offering, this can stands out in the breweriana community due to its distinctive graphic design and historical ties to eastern Ohio brewing heritage.

Design and Manufacture

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company under their trademark Cap-Sealed format, the high-profile can showcases a metallic copper and bronze-accented backdrop. The central focus of the face features an illustrated wooden brew vat or barrel, surrounded by bold vintage lettering identifying the brand as "Olde Vat Premium Beer". The side panels include the mandatory brewing information along with Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) labeling statements required during its era of distribution.

Collector Variations and Legacy

Among collectors of Ohio breweriana, the Olde Vat can is known to exist with subtle printing and textual differences. Different variations can be identified by slight modifications in the mandatory phrasing, the layout of alcohol text statements, and fine detailing such as accent striping below the brand lettering.

Because regional breweries like New Philadelphia operated with smaller distribution footprints compared to national brewing giants, relatively few of these cans entered broader circulation. Today, the Olde Vat cone top remains an elusive and prized piece of packaging history for enthusiasts of Ohio beer cans.
