Onyo Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Onyo Beer: A Saloon Novelty Can

The Onyo Beer 12 oz tab top can is a specialty piece of breweriana produced by the Pittsburgh Brewing Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Featuring a crimped steel body, the label highlights a promotional tie-in to Johnny Dollar's Saloon and Dance Hall, identifying the brew under the subtitle "Genuine Burro Brew".

Pittsburgh Brewing Company frequently partnered with hospitality venues, regional establishments, and themed attractions to produce custom-branded cans. The Onyo brand stands as an example of saloon-themed novelty breweriana, utilizing Western saloon motifs and lighthearted characterization to market a dedicated house beverage.

Among breweriana collectors, the can is recognized for its bold typography and saloon graphics. Variations exist within the collecting community featuring minor differences in mandatory text placements and lid constructions from the manufacturing run. It remains a desirable item for collectors focusing on Pittsburgh Brewing Company history, novelty tavern issues, and classic promotional canning.
