P.o.s. Lager Beer Cone Top Can

P.O.S. Lager Beer Cone Top

The P.O.S. Lager Beer Cone Top Can is a notable piece of Mid-Atlantic breweriana, produced by the Philadelphia Brewing Company located at Sixth and Clearfield Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Operating in a city renowned for its deep brewing heritage, the Philadelphia Brewing Company distributed this brand prior to ceasing operations near the close of the 1940s.

Historical Context & Branding

The Philadelphia Brewing Company served the local metropolitan and regional market during the mid-twentieth century. The company packaged P.O.S. Lager Beer in metal containers that feature the federal "Internal Revenue Tax Paid" (IRTP) statement on the side panel. The label design relies on bold mid-century lettering and striking contrast designed for tavern and retail visibility.

Collectibility

Among East Coast breweriana enthusiasts and Pennsylvania regional specialists, the P.O.S. Lager Beer can is recognized as a scarce and elusive item. Because the Philadelphia Brewing Company operated with a relatively modest distribution footprint and closed its operations shortly after the era of IRTP labeling, surviving examples of this label appear infrequently in the collector market.

Variations

Known variations of the P.O.S. cone top exist, exhibiting subtle differences in mandatory text formatting and manufacturer markings across different production batches.
