Pabst 16 Oz Peoria Tab Top Can

The Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can associated with Peoria Heights, Illinois, represents a staple of larger-format breweriana packaging from Pabst Brewing Company. While twelve-ounce cans served as the standard package size, the sixteen-ounce "half quart" or "tallboy" format provided an expanded canvas for Pabst's classic branding.

Peoria Heights Facility Context

The Peoria Heights brewing facility was a major production hub for Pabst, having joined the fold during the merger with Premier Malt Products. The plant turned out millions of barrels of beer for Midwestern and nationwide distribution. Cans produced under the Peoria Heights designation highlight the brewery's multi-plant production network that defined mid-century brewing commerce.

Can Design & Notable Features

The exterior design showcases the iconic Pabst Blue Ribbon livery: the recognizable red diagonal sash across a pale cream field, bordered by blue trim and centered around the Pabst medallion crest surrounded by hops and barley sheaves.

Key details of interest to collectors include:

• City Listings: Text panels on the sides of the can reflect the mandatory statement of manufacturing, prominently citing Peoria Heights alongside other Pabst locations such as Milwaukee, Newark, Los Angeles, and Pabst, Georgia.
• Lid Details: Cans distributed from this facility frequently featured top lids with factory-embossed pull tabs bearing the Pabst script or company logo.
• Graphic and Text Variations: Over the course of manufacturing, several subtle label and text variations were produced due to different sheet lithographers, can manufacturing sources, and updates to the brewery city lineup on the mandatory text panel.

Breweriana Significance

The Peoria Heights sixteen-ounce tab top remains a favored piece among collectors focusing on Illinois regional brewing heritage, classic American industrial lithography, and oversized vintage beer cans.
