Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Pabst Blue Ribbon 16 Oz Tab Top

The Pabst Blue Ribbon 16-ounce tab top can represents a prominent large-format release from the historic Pabst Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Often referred to among breweriana enthusiasts as a "tall boy" or pint can, this container provided consumers with a larger single-serving alternative to standard 12-ounce packaging.

Design and Visual Identity

The can features the traditional Pabst Blue Ribbon livery, centered around the recognizable diagonal blue ribbon and red accent stripes over a crisp white background. Both primary display faces showcase Pabst's heraldic crest along with references to the company's founding in 1844 and its historic recognition at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The elongated vertical profile of the 16-ounce cylindrical body gives the branding a distinct presence compared to standard-sized issues.

Manufacturing and Variations

Produced in steel formats across different canning lines, these cans saw widespread distribution throughout the country. Collectors recognize several variations of this pint container, which stem from shifts in manufacturing plants, legal mandates, and packaging adjustments. Notable differences across known issues include:

• Brewery Plant Listings: Side mandatory text varies between single-city Milwaukee designations and multi-city listings that include secondary operational facilities such as Peoria Heights, Illinois; Newark, New Jersey; Los Angeles, California; and Pabst, Georgia.
• Mandatory Text Formatting: Subtle differences occur in the placement, font size, and arrangement of legal disclaimers and alcohol content statements.
• Can Construction: Production differences include seam styles, metal compositions, and lid embossings.

Due to the enduring legacy of the Pabst brand and its flagship Milwaukee facility, this 16-ounce can remains a core staple for breweriana collectors specializing in Wisconsin brewing heritage and large-format cans.
