Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer Flat Top Can

Pabst Los Angeles Flat Top

Following the Second World War, the Pabst Brewing Company expanded its production footprint beyond the Midwest to meet surging West Coast demand. In 1948, Pabst acquired the historic Los Angeles Brewing Company facility on North Main Street in Lincoln Heights—a landmark property previously celebrated for brewing Eastside Beer. Following modernization, the plant served as Pabst's primary packaging hub for California and surrounding western territories. Decades after operations ceased, the historic industrial site gained modern cultural significance when it was transformed into the Brewery Arts Complex, one of the country's most renowned artist-in-residence communities.

The can features Pabst's signature mid-century livery, centered on the classic blue ribbon emblem draped across a bold red diagonal stripe set over a metallic silver and white field. The side mandatory panels prominently highlight the Los Angeles, California canning attribution.

For breweriana enthusiasts, cans carrying the Los Angeles mandatory text are an essential focal point for documenting regional packaging history. Known variations exist across different manufacturing runs, showcasing differences in manufacturer stamps—such as markings from the American Can Company and National Can Company—as well as shifts in statutory phrasing, alcohol content statements, and mandatory text arrangements where Los Angeles is listed individually or alongside other facilities such as Milwaukee, Peoria Heights, and Newark.
