Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock Flat Top Can

Peoria Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock Can

The Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock flat top represents a prominent piece of Midwestern breweriana originating from the Pabst Brewing Company facility in Peoria Heights, Illinois. While Pabst's flagship lager dominated mass production, seasonal releases like their bock beer prompted specialized canning runs tailored to spring distribution, carrying the distinctive Peoria Heights plant mandatory.

Design and Collector Appeal

The can features Pabst's iconic heraldic ribbon branding adapted for bock packaging, employing rich, darker tones to distinguish the seasonal beverage from the standard lager cans. Produced with soldered-seam steel construction and traditional flat lids, the face prominently displays the Pabst name and bock designation alongside the Illinois brewery location.

Within the beer can collecting hobby, seasonal bock cans from large national brewers are prized items. Because bock beers were packaged in substantially smaller volumes and distributed during limited seasonal windows compared to flagship pale lagers, these cans were circulated in far lower numbers, making surviving specimens prized additions to regional and brand-focused collections.

Label Variations

Advanced collectors note variations across production runs of the Peoria Heights bock flat top. These differences generally appear in the fine print along the seam, the layout of the mandatory brewery information, and the inclusion of specific can company manufacturing marks and patent text. The presence of the Peoria Heights designation remains a key focal point for collectors cataloging Pabst's mid-century multi-plant operations.
