Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock Flat Top Can

Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock (Newark)

The Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock flat top issued from Newark, New Jersey, represents a notable seasonal release from Pabst's major East Coast production hub. The Newark facility, famous for its landmark bottle-shaped water tower, supplied mid-Atlantic and northeastern markets with both Pabst's core lineup and limited seasonal specialties.

Graphic Design and Aesthetics

Distinct from the brewer's standard blue-and-white lager cans, the bock can featured specialized thematic artwork tailored to the style. The design incorporates the traditional Pabst blue ribbon and crest alongside classic bock iconography, including traditional goat imagery and deep, dark color accents. The mandatory brewery text reading Newark, New Jersey differentiates this can from identical label designs filled at Pabst breweries in Milwaukee, Peoria, or Los Angeles.

Collector Variations and Production

Containers for this release were manufactured by prominent mid-century container producers, including the Continental Can Company and the American Can Company. Variations exist across different production runs, exhibiting subtle differences in can manufacturer insignias, factory stamps, and mandatory legal copy placement. Because bock was historically brewed in smaller batches for early-spring distribution, these cans saw shorter manufacturing runs compared to year-round flagship beers, making them sought-after items for Garden State and national brand breweriana collections.
