Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock Flat Top Can

Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock Flat Top

The Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock flat top can from the Pabst Brewing Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a premier collectible among mid-century American canned bock issues. Because bock beers were traditionally brewed as a seasonal offering released primarily in the early spring, Pabst packaged this specialty beer in substantially smaller quantities compared to its flagship lager, making these cans significantly scarcer for collectors today.

Design and Visual Appeal

The can incorporates the iconic Pabst ribbon and heraldic shield alongside bold "Bock Beer" branding. The artwork is differentiated by rich, dark background tones suited to the seasonal release, creating a striking contrast to the ubiquitous white, blue, and red of standard Pabst Blue Ribbon flat tops. A notable highlight for breweriana enthusiasts is that certain production runs featured custom factory vanity lids stamped or printed specifically with "Pabst Bock" on the top lid.

Manufacturing and Known Variations

Manufactured primarily via the American Can Company's "Keglined" process, this label displays several known variations across production runs. These differences include variations in brewery mandatory text, shifts in company address styling, the presence or absence of metric centiliter measurements, and distinct factory plant stamping codes.

Due to its seasonal distribution and classic mid-century presentation, the Pabst Blue Ribbon Bock flat top remains a centerpiece for collectors dedicated to Wisconsin brewing heritage and vintage bock breweriana.
