Paul Bunyan Beer Flat Top Can

Paul Bunyan Flat Top Profile

The Paul Bunyan Beer Flat Top Can is a celebrated piece of mid-century breweriana produced under the Paul Bunyan Division of the Wisconsin Brewing Company (operated under the Fox Head Brewing Company) in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Background and Graphic Design

The can prominently features the legendary American folklore lumberjack Paul Bunyan, evoking the logging traditions and Northwoods culture of Wisconsin. Its bold graphics typically incorporate rustic motifs and regional slogans such as "Wisconsin, the Great Northwoods State". Regional breweries of this era frequently utilized iconic figures and outdoor themes to appeal to local pride and sportsmen across the upper Midwest.

Variations and Manufacturing

Manufactured across the 1950s by major container producers such as the American Can Company and Continental Can Company, the can features several collectible differences across production runs. Known variations include differences in accent and trim colors, background paint tones, and subtle alterations in the mandatory side panel text regarding division listings and brewery locations.

Collectibility

Due to its crossover appeal between folk art, regional advertising, and mid-century brewing history, the Paul Bunyan flat top is widely sought after by collectors focusing on Wisconsin labels and character-driven graphic cans.
