Pearl Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Pearl 16 Oz Two-City Tab Top

The Pearl Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can is a classic piece of Southwestern breweriana issued by the Pearl Brewing Company of San Antonio, Texas. Established in 1883 as the City Brewery and later known as the San Antonio Brewing Association, Pearl developed into a regional powerhouse and one of the most prominent brewing institutions in the southern United States. The brand became an enduring cultural fixture across Texas and neighboring markets, celebrated for its spirited regional presence.

This 16-ounce straight steel container represents the larger half-quart format produced to satisfy demand for pint-sized packaging. Visually, the can features Pearl's recognizable styling, led by the brand's traditional script lettering and heraldic design elements. Pearl's marketing heavily emphasized its water source with the famous slogan, "From the Country of 1100 Springs," paying homage to the artesian wells drawing from the Edwards Aquifer directly beneath the San Antonio facility.

What distinguishes this release is the two-city mandatory text. Following Pearl's acquisition of the historic M.K. Goetz Brewing Company of St. Joseph, Missouri, the company expanded its manufacturing footprint beyond Texas. As production was distributed across both breweries, packaging mandatories were updated to cite both San Antonio, Texas, and St. Joseph, Missouri.

Because containers were manufactured across different canning lines and supplier contracts to supply Pearl's distribution footprint, variations exist across production batches. These manufacturing differences can be observed in side-panel typography, mandatory text placement, and stamps from commercial can manufacturers. Representing a major expansion era for the San Antonio institution, this 16-ounce tab top remains a popular piece for collectors of Texas breweriana and vintage pint cans.
