Peter Hand's Extra Pale Beer Flat Top Can

Peter Hand's Extra Pale Beer Can

Produced by the Peter Hand Brewery Company of Chicago, Illinois, this can represents a notable chapter in the Windy City's rich industrial brewing history. Founded in 1891 by Prussian immigrant and Civil War veteran Peter Hand on Chicago's North Side, the brewery grew into a regional powerhouse and ultimately held the historic distinction of being Chicago's last legacy commercial brewery before closing in the late 1970s.

For breweriana collectors, items from the Peter Hand Brewery carry significant historical appeal. Beyond producing local staples such as Meister Bräu and Peter Hand's Extra Pale Beer, the brewery is famously recognized in beverage history for developing and popularizing the original low-calorie beer formulation that was later acquired by the Miller Brewing Company and rebranded into Miller Lite.

The Extra Pale Beer can features mid-century lithography characterized by bold brand typography, crisp graphic framing, and side panel instructional text. Variations of the can are known to exist among collectors, reflecting subtle changes in manufacturer markings, legal brewery text, and metallic trim finishes across different production runs. These nuances make the can a sought-after staple for enthusiasts specializing in historic Illinois and Midwestern breweriana.
